PACASE

The PAnnonian-Carpathian-Alpine Seismic Experiment (PACASE) project is carried out as an “AlpArray Complementary Experiment” by the following institutes:

  • Institute of Geophysics, Czech Academy of Sciences (Prague, Czech Republic), represented by Jaroslava Plomerová and Helena Žlebčíková (formerly: Munzarová),

  • Kövesligethy Seismological Observatory, Geodetic and Geophysical Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Budapest-Sopron, Hungary) represented by Viktor Wesztergom, Eszter Szűcs and Zoltán Wéber,

  • Earth Science Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences; Comenius University in Bratislava & Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (Slovakia) represented by Lucia Fojtíková, Miroslav Bielik and Juraj Papčo,

  • Institute for Meteorology and Geophysics, University of Vienna (Vienna, Austria), represented by Götz Bokelmann, Florian Fuchs and Petr Kolinsky,

  • Institute of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Geosciences and Environment, University of Lausanne (Lausanne, Switzerland) represented, by György Hetényi,

  • Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences; Institute of Geophysics, University of Warsaw & Faculty of Earth Sciences, University of Silesia (Poland), represented by Wojciech Czuba, Marek Grad and Adam Idziak,

  • DSEBRA consortium of universities in Germany, represented by Thomas Meier, University of Kiel; Antje Schlömer, University of Munich; and Wolfgang Friederich, University of Bochum.

The institutions listed above combine their mobile seismological pools to create a dense array of seismic station in the region of the Carpathians, Pannonian Basin and Eastern Alps and a part of the Bohemian Massif.

Data is collected from the stations and the data quality is controlled by the respective station owners. The data, including those from permanent observatories in the region, is distributed through EIDA (European Integrated Data Archive). The PACASE network code is ZJ, station names composed of 5 characters are as follows:

  • Czech stations in Eastern Slovakia: SK01A to SKxx1;

  • Hungarian stations in Eastern Hungary: HU01A to HUxxA;

  • Polish stations in Southern Poland: PL01A to PLxxA;

  • DSEBRA stations planned for Eastern Hungary: HU21A to HU2xA;

  • as an extension of the AlpArray Seismic Network, DSEBRA, Austrian and Czech stations in Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Western Hungary: follow from AASN station names (Z3 network, station codes AxxxY).

The PACASE dataset becomes publicly available 3 years after the experiment ends.
